My Family History Research

Introduction

I’ve really enjoyed learning about my family’s history, and was equally as interested to find out about my wife’s family story.

In 1993, as a completely blind person, my ability to use a computer was made possible by assistive technology known as a screen reader. A few years later, as the availability and accessibility of genealogical records on the Internet began to greatly increase, I keenly started researching my ancestry. One thing I was determined to do was to ensure my research was as accurate as possible, and that desire has stayed with me ever since.

This website contains some of the research I’ve carried out on both sides of our families. The four primary surnames making the starting points are: Nixey, Jones, Albray, and Callahan. Please click on one of the names below to begin accessing my research for that family.

As June 28th 2025 marked the 65th anniversary of the Six Bells Mining Disaster, I decided to create my own online Memorial for the 45 miners who lost their lives in this tragedy. I have also added information about some relevant places, street names, and other interesting facts in a section called Abertillery Local History, and a Before the Buses section which includes my research on the various families who operated local char-a-bancs, buses and coaches.

If you would like to get in touch with me, or if you have a correction, contribution, or suggestion you’d like to make regarding this website, please feel free to contact me.
